February 2022 saw the escalation of international armed conflict in Ukraine. Since then, over 6.8 million people have fled Ukraine and become refugees, and 3.7 million people have been displaced internally.
The humanitarian needs continue to grow as the conflict continues. People in Ukraine are experiencing unimaginable hardship as the conflict drags on into its fourth year. Millions remain displaced, struggling with food, water and medicine shortages, whilst many are trapped under regular bombardments. Mental health needs are soaring as uncertainty and fear persist.
Some people are now returning home to badly damaged or destroyed houses, schools, hospitals, and other infrastructure. Health facilities are struggling to cope, and critical medical supplies are scarce.
The number of open cases of missing persons documented during the Ukraine conflict has reached almost 50,000, almost doubling since February 2024, and the figures only continue to grow.
Red Cross teams in Ukraine and surrounding countries have been there since day one, reaching over 14.5 million people with essential humanitarian assistance.
This includes healthcare and mental health support, cash and voucher assistance, water and sanitation services, and food support.
